Activity - care and maintenance of tablets
Discussion
The facilitator will lead a short brainstorming session to promote thinking about safekeeping and maintenance strategies for your schools sets of tablets.
Storage and Memory Management
The facilitator will demonstrate how to check the memory status on a tablet.
Updates Management
In the same way as Windows computers download updates, each of the 50+ apps on your tablet are designed to automatically download updates from the Internet if new versions are released. As you have a limited Internet connection but a large user based (50 tablets x 50 apps...) should you allow this to happen, you may find the Internet connection degrading. It is best, therefore, to set all of your tablets to "not auto-update apps".
This is done in Google Play > Settings. Your facilitator will show you how. When you return to your schools you will need to do this with all of your tablets.
Most updates will be minor and significant updates with new application features or content will be infrequent. You can plan a scheduled update, during a school holiday for instance. The facilitator will discuss with you how to do this.
Power Management
The facilitator will demonstrate the features of the charging systems that are to be provided (charging trolleys).
You are challenged to consider strategies to ensure that
- The tablets are kept secure
- The tablets are available and (all are) sufficiently charged ready for use when needed
- Care is taken over the daily need to plug and unplug the charging cables, which involve fragile components
