Afternoon Project - Learning wiki skills and starting a Wiki Project

Completion requirements

Afternoon Project
For those interested in learning more advanced wiki skills and applying them.
You will lay the foundation for on-going  projects in which you can involve your students (and communities) in building useful local content (and even local language) resources.
This is a session where you will set the agenda. The facilitators will work with you, providing guidance and ad-hoc training.
Options
  1. Consolidate your basic wiki skills. Learn how to follow up your wiki skills training with self learning tutorials on the Wikieducator and the OER Foundation's Digital Skills for OERs free training.
  2. Learn how to create pages in Bislama on the Wikipedia. Work on some example pages and consider how to get your schools, students and communities involved. Map out the curriculum and policy linkages. You can also use the French and English version of the Wikipedia. Consult the Bislama dictionary if need be.
  3. Use the Wikieducator lesson plan template to start a collection of lesson plan ideas that use ICTs, the UAP resources and promote local content development.
  4. The facilitator will show you how to set up a local encyclopedia on the gateway server. This is a wiki but it is local (accessed via the Portal at your school only, and not available on the Internet). This may be a convenient way to practice skills and start a local language encyclopaedia, with the ability to manage and monitor locally without the risk of publishing unverified or linguistically incorrect content.
