Community Learning Programmes - Educational digital radio from Solomon Islands

Completion requirements

Several communities in Isabel Province, Solomon Islands, worked together to design and produce educational radio programmes for their local FM stations (community FM radio). This was an initiative started with assistance from the Commonwealth of Learning's Healthy Communities programme, which ran from 2009-2012. The programmes were recorded with simple digital equipment such as hand held mp3 recorders, and mixed and edited using Audacity on low cost netbooks.

Schools in Vanuatu could use such methods to produce educational audio resources as outputs of highly engaging learning assignments linked to curricular strands and share them by uploading to school websites or wikis.

The link below has some examples of the radio programmes produced by the Isabel communities. A good example is "What Makes Rubbish, Nha Au Fa Keli, episode 4"
